Ethiopia’s first Bitcoin miner, QRB Labs introduced mining PPAs to companies and government - a concept that brings Bitcoin into their national energy policy. QRB Labs’ mission is to hit 100GW power generation, a metric that places Ethiopia right around the 1kW per person global generation average. “Taking world population against global generation capacity gives you about 1kw per person. So Ethiopia needs ~100GW to reach the global average, another 1000% growth (20 GERDs) that needs to happen for Ethiopia to climb to the middle of the world” - Nemo Semret It’s why QRB Labs has specialized in building & running modular Bitcoin mining data centers that shift electricity from being a cost to an energy growth engine. This resultant virtuous cycle brings Bitcoin miners to remote locations producing surplus power, reinvesting the generated revenue into further generation, transmission and grid growth. At the right price, Bitcoin mining is the ignition switch that ushers a country’s energy into economic prosperity. Bitcoin mining data centers co-locate well at stranded energy sub-stations, turning excess generation into hard revenue that loops back into the grid to fund transmission, subsidize pricing, expand generation or otherwise improve the grid. More mining → more revenue → more capacity → more growth. Each unused kWh of electricity equals 40 cents of GDP. The right feedback loop can monetize today’s excess generation capacity, potentially adding $50B to the country’s GDP. Africa can leapfrog the old energy playbook by building out Bitcoin mining and AI compute at stranded power stations and absorbing the excess generation to finance grid infrastructure. #bitcoinmining #energytransition #ethiopia #modularinfrastructure #gridtech #hydropower #miningafrica #QRB
Bitcoin miners are the new saviors? Sure ??
How nice. Can we get real? The attached (publicly available, of course) schema shows architecture of ET grid system. If "Bitcoin mining data centers co-locate well at stranded energy sub-stations" those data centers shall be placed quite far from Addis.
Interesting shenanigans. Parasitic methods or not, why is it they don't generate power and use it for themselves? When real reforms of the power sector here are seriously realized, sooner than later inevitably, it's only right for ???? to demand market adjusted power tariffs from all (and arrears). ????? ???? ???? ?????? ????? ?? Swindling not sustainable anyway.
